Marion was born on November 16, 1923 on a farm at Leslie, near the Old State Capital, rural Belmont, daughter of Nelson and Mina (Bentz) Arthur. She was an only child. She attended Platteville High School and State Teachers College (UW-Platteville) graduating in 1943. She taught in rural schools in the area for 17 years. When country schools were being closed she became a Grant County Case Worker. She worked there for 23 years working with the elderly, blind and disabled, and the mothers with dependent children program. Marion enjoyed traveling and spent several winters down south in Texas, Arizona and Florida. After retirement she was able to travel and enjoy her many friends. She loved nature, animals, and birds. She fed many stray animals as well as many people who needed help. Her last few years were spent at Park Place Assisted Living, a retirement home, where she met and enjoyed many new and old friends. Even in her later years Marion was always “Marvelous”. Marion was a member of the Lutheran Church of Peace, Platteville, where she felt “I am blessed”. She enjoyed helping and spending time with her church duties.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Nelson and Mina Arthur and her “dear friend, Charlotte Brown”.

She is survived and will be greatly missed by her God children, Tami Halatek of Monroe, WI and Terry Tregloan of Freeport, IL; Esther Tregloan of Monroe; Jerry Schliem of Surprise, AZ; Ruth Taylor of Madison, Dorothy Arthur of Gratiot, WI and her many friends.

I worked with Marion for many years while she was with the Grant County Department of Social Services. I was a state employee working with many of the programs with which she was also responsible. She was a great cohort as there was none of the county vs. state experience, just a wish to resolve problems and make sure the programs worked and the benefits got to the people. She certainly had our respect.
