Obituary

Della Mae Voigts, 94, of Platteville died on Monday, September 19, 2016 at her home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 24, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Rev. Faustino Ruiz and Deacon Bill Bussan will concelebrate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the mass at the church. Memorials may be made to the Della Mae Voigts Memorial Fund. Online condolences can be made at www.melbyfh.com

Della Mae was born on September 5, 1922 in Belmont, Wisconsin, daughter of Frank and Lucille (Ludlum) Sornberger. She was united in marriage to Homer J. Voigts on February 12, 1945. He preceded her in death on January 11, 2000. She graduated from Belmont High School and State Teachers College (UW-Platteville). She taught school for a short time, and farmed for many years with her husband, Homer. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville and CCW. Della Mae enjoyed playing cards and belonged to many card clubs. She enjoyed doing crafts, crocheting and baking. In her younger years she enjoyed bowling.

She is survived by her five children, Joann (Jim) Myers of Mequon, WI; Lois (Larry) Bartling of Brookfield, WI; “Jack” (Marcy) Voigts of Casa Grande, AZ; Fritz (Becki) Voigts of Platteville; Dee (Joe) Robbins of Dubuque; ten grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and her extended family and friends at Bears Court. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister, Loretta Voigts.

So sorry to hear of Della Mae's passing. I remember a lot of good times with your parents, my parents and Helen and Warren. We can not attend as we will be out of town. Donna and Lou Lawinger

We (John Spensley & Zella's family) went to school with Della Mae's family at the West School and lived as neighbors for several years in that community. You have my sympathy at this sad time.

So sorry to hear about your mother. She was such a nice lady and I'm sure you will have enjoyment in the many happy memories of her. I remember all the nice Sunday dinners we had at your house. She was always so glad to see us.

Della Mae was quite a lady as was her sister Loretta. I worked for Roy and Loretta for a while during the time that I was going to Platteville U and during that time I stayed at Lucille's house. I had the greatest respect for all four brothers and their families. Incidentally Elmer and I had birthdays on the same day, November 26 and he was 26 years older than me. Just as Homer and Roy married sisters, My sister Barbara married Bob Lewis and I married Connie L ewis, Bob's sister. Barb and Bob got to know Dela Mae and it was Barb that sent me Dela's obituary. I haven't stopped into see Jean yet, but I will. I would love to have email from any of the Voigts.

So sorry to hear of Della Mae's passing. In my younger years I always thought we were related as we were such good family friends. She was such a gracious, special person. Know that your family is in the prayers of my husband, Reed and me. God bless
