Obituary

Our Lord Jesus Christ called His servant and missionary, Nancy Lee Wadlund Cowie home, in Wellington, South Africa, on Sunday November 6, 2016, where she was reunited with her husband, Reginald “Reg” Cowie.  In addition to a service held in Paarl, South Africa, a memorial service will be held at Daybreak Church in Carlsbad, CA (6515 Ambrosia Ln Carlsbad, CA 92011) on December 3, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.  Instead of sending flowers people can donate at www.gofundme.com and look for the Nancy Wadlund Cowie Memorial Fund. The money that is donated will be divided between the four ministries that Nancy has selected.  The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, Wisconsin, is assisting the family, 1245 N Water St. Platteville, WI 53818.  Online condolences may be made at www.melbyfh.com.

Nancy was born on July 21, 1958 in Burlington, Vermont to Carolyn (Hall) Wadlund Nodolf and Thor (FKA Thom) Wadlund.  Nancy was endowed with numerous gifts: communicating, motivating people, and creativity.  She was passionate about every endeavor she undertook and put her soul into her work.  Nancy had a magnetic personality and a great zest for life.  She loved God deeply and felt her life was led by His will.

Nancy graduated from St. Louis High School in St. Louis, MO in 1976; then after graduating from Cosmetology School, she owned and operated The Ritz; a full service salon in Madison, Wisconsin.  She attended the University of Phoenix while in Tucson, Arizona and completed many courses in leadership, women's ministry, communication, and delivering God's word to small groups.

As the only sister of six brothers, Nancy had a unique perspective on family, valued deeply the love of siblings, and cherished togetherness in times of adversity and celebration.  Nancy lived life fully; she traveled extensively, enjoyed life's pleasurers, and endured the pain.  She sought to understand and help others less fortunate.

Nancy married Reg Cowie in Tucson, Arizona on March 21, 1998. After their marriage, the couple settled in Carlsbad, California and Nancy worked for Daybreak Church, where she directed women's ministry and more.  Nancy and Reg were called to missionary work in his homeland of South Africa and lived there for the past 12 years.  South Africa became her second home; they loved the country and its people deeply and felt privileged to do God's work there.

Nancy is survived by her mother, Carolyn Wadlund Nodolf; step-father, Carl Nodolf; six brothers, Arthur (Jananne) Wadlund, Thom (Laurel) Wadlund, Roger (Jill) Wadlund, Donald Peter Wadlund, Matthew (Alexandra) Wadlund, and Eric (Rowena) Wadlund; aunts and uncles, Margaret (Douglas) Smith; Donna (Charles) French; fifteen nieces and nephews; four great-nieces and nephews; step-sister, Deb (Larry) Jenny; step brothers, Ken (Carol) Nodolf and Gary Nodolf; father-in-law and his wife, Gerald and Velda Cowie; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lynn and Ron Mikulka.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Reg, in 2015 and her father, Thor (Thom) Wadlund in 2003.

To the Wadlund Family, I want to express my sincere condolences. I was saddened to hear of Nancy's passing. What a wonderful and inspiring woman of God she became. I have such fond memories of your family moving to Platteville and growing up on the same street with you all. There was never a dull moment and I always felt bad for Nancy being the only girl and the boys always picking on her. Please know I will keep you in my prayers. Love to you all, Ginger

My sincere condolences to the Entire Family. She was definitely blessed to have this family. Although I never had the chance to meet Nancy, I know that she was loved, especially by her family. It was amazing to see all her brothers step up after her passing to make sure all her affairs were taken care and do what needed to be done. They came together as a family should. May she rest in peace. Prayers for her soul and healing for the family.
