Shirley Schaal

Shirley A. Schaal, 84, of Platteville died on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Manor Care Health Services, Platteville.  Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 3, 2016 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville.  Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Platteville.  Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the Shirley A. Shirley was born on July 4, 1932 in Lancaster, Wisconsin, the daughter of Carl and Alma (Trollop) Graney.  She was united in marriage to Donald Dale Schaal on September 4, 1952 in Lancaster.  He preceded her in death on November 26, 2005.

Shirley worked at the Timber's Restaurant for many years and later at the EZ Shop in Platteville. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and needlepoint.  She also enjoyed playing cards, which included cribbage, 500, and euchre, as well as, doing jigsaw puzzles.  Shirley would also volunteer her time on Thursday's at the Platteville Senior Center.  She is survived by three children, Dennis (Elizabeth) Schaal of Platteville; Jeff Schaal of Portland, OR; and Kari (Scott) Biesinger of Salt Lake City, UT; and three grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings, Ivanelle (Jack) Tucker, Pat (Arnie) Junk, Berna Graney, Helen (Robert) Lowell, and Dale Graney.  The family would like to extend of special thank you to the staff at Park Place, Manor Care, and St. Croix Hospice for the care given to Shirley.
