Obituary

Keith W. Pickel, 83, of Platteville, died on Friday, November 25, 2016 at Manor Care Health Services, Platteville. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Benton, Wisconsin. Rev. David Flanagan and Deacon Bill Bussan will concelebrate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 28, 2016 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, where there will be a scripture wake service at 3:45 p.m., friends may also call from 9:30 a.m. until time of the mass at the church. Memorials may be made to the Keith W. Pickel Memorial Fund. Online condolences can be made at www.melbyfh.com.

Keith was born on May 23, 1933 in Grant County, Wisconsin, son of Linden “Bud” and Genevieve (VanNatta) Pickel. He was united in marriage to June M. Birkett on February 9, 1951 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dubuque, Iowa. She preceded him in death on October 27, 2009. Keith farmed on Buckwheat Ridge until he retired and moved to Platteville. After retiring from farming he did maintenance at the Platteville Library, he also worked at Southwest Supply, Platteville and for Tri-State Auto Auction, Cuba City. Keith was an avid outdoorsman where he liked to hunt, especially bear and ice fishing. For many years Keith raised Plott hounds for coon hunters. Keith and June enjoyed their many trips to Branson, Missouri, and he also enjoyed following UW-Platteville men's basketball. He attended all of his grandchildren's sporting and school events.

He is survived by four children, Penny (Steve) Droessler of Platteville; Rhonda (Jim) Tollefson of Fennimore, WI; Lynette (Donnie) Clayton of Platteville; Scott Pickel of Waukegan, IL; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen (Merv) Jentz of Platteville; two sisters-in-law, Judy (Philip “Mick”) Vaughn of Benton, WI; and Jerry Green of Mount Morris, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife, June, son, Michael in 2009, his parents, sister, Darlene in infancy and sister, Dorothy Jean Teasdale and brother-in-law, Robert Green.

We are all saddened for your familys loss. I have so many memories of spending the summers on your Farm. Always loved and cherished them Days. Uncle keiths will be missed by us all. Rip uncle keith. Go join the rest of our Familys in heaven. You fought the good fight here. Until we meet again. Gone but never forgotten

So sorry to hear about your dad Lynnette. Such a good man, he was such a sweetheart!!!! Terry always talked about all the fishing trips him Kieth and Dave Brugger went on , some were guite hilarious !!! Up to Saul/Prairie walleye fishing or Blackhawk Lake ice fishing those three and throw a bottle of Southern Comfort in there !! Well now the three can fish and talk all they want now, bless their hearts !!! Take care thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.... Marcy

So very sorry to hear of your father's passing, Rhonda, Jim and family. So very difficult to lose a loved one, no matter what the circumstances. I hope you find solace in the memories you have made with your Dad.
