Obituary

Norbert W. Stoker, 89, of Lancaster, formerly of Potosi, died on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Grant Regional Health Center, Lancaster.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 13, 2017 at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Tennyson, Wisconsin.  Father Richard Leffler will officiate.  Burial will be at the St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery.  Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2017 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, where there will be a prayer service at 3:45 p.m. led by Rev. Zayna Thompson.  Friends may also call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the church.  Memorials may be made to the Norbert W. Norbert was born on July 15, 1927 in Potosi Township, son of Albert and Mathilda (Schroeder) Stoker.  He was united in marriage to Leona Kipper on April 13, 1948 in Glen Haven, Wisconsin.  She preceded him in death on October 10, 1994.  He later married Karen (Stanton) Wilson on November 4, 2000 in Necedah, WI.  She preceded him in death on August 6, 2013.

As a young man he worked at the Tennyson Mine. Norbert was a farmer at heart, where he farmed in Potosi Township.  While farming he worked at the Dubuque Pack, he then went to work at John Deere Dubuque Works, retiring after 28 years of service.  He also worked part time at Winkler's Implement in Potosi. Norbert would do anything for anybody who needed a helping hand. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, Potosi, and UAW Local 94 of Dubuque.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing “tug of war,” and watching Mary Ann play softball for many years.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary Ann Stoker of Lancaster; sister, Anita (Robert) Richgels of Port Richey, FL; brother, Joseph (Delores) Stoker of Lancaster; special friend, Sally Kitelinger of Dodgeville, WI; step-children, step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and his companion, Maggie (his dog).  Norbert was preceded in death by his parents.
