Obituary

Merrill W. Weittenhiller, 86, of Livingston, Wisconsin, died on Monday, April 3, 2017 at Heritage Care Center, Fairbury, Nebraska.  Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the Livingston United Methodist Church, Livingston.  Rev. Ty Hines and Rev. John Oliver will officiate.  Burial will be at the Arthur Cemetery.   Friends may call on Friday, April 7, 2017 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the church, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.  Memorials may be made to the Merrill W. Weittenhiller Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 245, Platteville, WI 53818.  The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville is serving the family.  Online condolences can be made at www.melbyfh.com.

Merrill was born on March 19, 1931 in Platteville, Wisconsin, son of William Conrad and Selena Lee “Lena” (Condry) Weittenhiller.  Merrill graduated from Platteville High School and attended the Platteville Teachers College studying secondary math/engineering and UW-Madison studying dairy industry.  He was united in marriage to LaVonne A. Nybo on June 18, 1951 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, Nashua, Iowa.  Merrill managed the Meridell Guernsey Farm near Aurthur, Wisconsin from 1951 until he retired in 1996.  He served as a Director on the Farm Credit Bureau from 1982-1997.  He was a lifetime member of the Arthur United Methodist Church.  Merrill was an avid Badger, Packer and Brewer fan.  He enjoyed history, reading, playing cards (especially Euchre), bowling, traveling, and being involved in the daily lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Merrill is survived by his wife, LaVonne; four children, Cynthia Attaway, Kari (Michael) Fisher, Curtis (Sharon) Weittenhiller and Steven (Susan) Weittenhiller; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carol Dobson and Doris O'Neil.  He was preceded in death by his son, Jay and his parents, William and Selena Weittenhiller.

So sorry to hear ofrom the loss of this great man. I will always have fond memories of living on the farm as a child. May you carry him in your heart
