Darlene Schambow

Darlene Jean (Chapman) Schambow, 87, of Platteville, went into the Good Lord's hands peacefully surrounded by her family, on April 18, 2017 at Epione Pavilion in Cuba City, Wisconsin.  Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the Lutheran Church of Peace, Platteville.  Rev. Jeff Pedersen will officiate.  Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Platteville.  Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2017 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, or from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church.  Memorials may be made to the Darlene J. Darlene was born the first of ten children, to Elmer and Jeanette (Kabele) Chapman on May 6, 1929.  She graduated from Dodgeville High School in 1947.  During high school she worked at the Royal Blue Grainery and Wayside Market.  She was united in marriage to her sweetheart Robert “Bob” Schambow, on February 14, 1950, during a blizzard.  They farmed together all their married life.  Darlene also worked off the farm at Fendall Lenscraft, retiring in 1994 after 25 years of service.  She and Bob enjoyed square dancing and playing in a Sunday night traveling card club.  She was a 4-H club sewing leader for 25 years for the Woodchuck 4-H Club.  Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, crocheting, and embroidery.  She was a member of Lutheran Church of Peace and a member of the Hannah Circle Sewing Group, where she made a lot of quilt tops and helped put them together for families in need.  She attended all of her children's school music and sport activities.  But what brought her the greatest joy was watching her grandchildren participate in their school activities.

Those left to share her joy are her seven children, Judith “Judy” (Arthur) Temby, Jean Schambow, James “Jim” (Brenda) Schambow, Joy (Michael) Oliverio, Joel “Joe” (Luanne) Schambow, Janet (Mark) Stecklein, and Julie Schambow.  Her real pride and joy, fourteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, Christopher (Brooke) Temby and children, Cordell and Lizabeth; Tina Temby; Aaron (Christine) Temby and daughter, Ainsley; Jamie Schambow and sons, Parker and Kayson; Samantha Schambow and children, Brealyn and Brogan; Chase Schambow and daughter, Madyson; Hayley (Jake) Clifton and daughter, Avalyn; Ryan (Tamara) Oliverio; Tyler (Shelby) Oliverio; Derek, Cody, and Brock Schambow; Tess and Morgan Stecklein; brothers and sisters, Richard Chapman, Gail Lewis, Karen (James) Weisenberger, James (Marge) Chapman, John (Peggy) Chapman, Lynn (Mike Radigan) Chapman, Layne Chapman, William Chapman, sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth Spensley, Donald (Gail) Schambow, Richard (Karen) Schambow, Patti Chapman, aunt, Anna Mae Kabele; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob, of 59 years and 11 months; daughter, Jayne; sister, Carol Weicht; sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Chapman and Doris Martinson; brothers-in-law, Donald Lewis, Harry Weicht, Glenn Spensley, Merle Martinson; grandparents, Peter and Emma Kabele; Harker and Hattie Chapman; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and a great-niece.
