Paul L. Nicholson, 73, of Platteville, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Southwest Health Center Hospital, Platteville. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Pastor Mary Ann Floerke will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2017 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, or from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home. Paul was born on July 29, 1943 in Platteville, the son of Addison and Ruth (Kane) Nicholson. He met his wife, Sandra Wheeland in 1962. They were married in Rockford, Illinois on November 7, 1964 and they were blessed with four children. They lived in Rockford for 16 years before moving to Lancaster, Wisconsin in 1980. Paul worked for the Grant County Highway Department in maintenance for 22 years. After retiring he moved to Platteville in 2010. Paul enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, and wood-working.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; sons, Addison, Tim, and Paul (Heidi) Nicholson; daughter, Christina (fiancé, Adrian Heft) Nicholson; six grandchildren, Adrian Kiefer, Nicole Conner, Keaton Buhrmester, Gabrielle Nicholson, Adam Heft and Joe Heft; two great-grandsons, Kayden Kiefer and Atticus Conner; sister, Alice Nelson; sister-in-law, Nancy Nicholson and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Ian Kiefer; parents, Addison and Ruth; brothers, Edward, Lawrence, and Robert “Nick” Nicholson; and sisters, Irene Guernsey and Deloras Burkard.
