Herbert Klein

Herbert E. Klein, 89, of Platteville, died on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Manor Care, Platteville.  Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 1, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville.  Rev. Faustino Ruiz will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Platteville, where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #42 and VFW Post #5274.  Friends may call from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday, April 30, 2017 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, where there will be a parish rosary at 1:45 p.m.; friends may also call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the church.  Memorials may be made to the Herbert E. Herb was born on January 8, 1928 in Grant County, Wisconsin, son of Leo and Jessie (Bell) Klein.  He was united in marriage to Dorothy Reuter on January 26, 1963 in Dubuque, Iowa.  As a young man he hauled milk and worked with his father, Leo, in the quarries.  Herb then worked as a mechanic for John Deere Dubuque Works for 28 years retiring in 1985.  He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville, and the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and VFW.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing euchre and bingo.  Herb always enjoyed his time with his family, especially attending his children and grandchildren's activities over the years. 

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy; five children, Alita Ballard of Hanover, IL; Kristi (Dave) Hessling of Hazel Green, WI; Herbert (Marla) Klein, Kari (Ricky) Runde, and Kelly Klein all of Platteville; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Janice (Toby) Hubbard of Platteville; three brothers, Vernelle (Lorita) Klein, Merle Klein all of Platteville; Bill (Ruth) Klein of Stoughton, WI; and many nieces and nephews.   He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Sandy Vondrum and Jane Pluemer.
