James “Jimi” Joseph Davey, age 31, died at Southwest Health Center in Platteville, WI, on Thursday, April 27^th, 2017. The cause of death was due to heroin overdose. There will be a time of gathering and Celebration of Life held at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 5, 2017.

Jimi's life will forever be remembered by his loving family members; his parents Joseph and Lori Davey of Platteville, WI, his sister Cheyenne Davey and her significant other John Jackson Jr. of Waukesha, WI, and his two daughters Linzie Steers and Lillie Davey both of Clayton, WI, with a special thanks to Kim and Ron Slater for always being there and everything they have done. His aunts and uncles; Debi and Jerri Custer, Dick and Judy Brogley, Vicki and Kelly Flynn, Donna and Charles Bolduc, Rhonda Frame, and many unrelated aunts and uncles. His cousins; Tabetha Schmitt and her sons, Karen Womack and her children, Debbie and Todd Zirzow and their sons, Jill and Dale Brown and their daughter, Jessica and Jack McCluskey and their children, Donald Mann Jr. and his son, Kelly Flynn Jr. Also, his special friend and ex-wife Shannon Davey, along with many other loving and caring friends.

Jimi was proceeded in death by his grandparents Amos and Florence Davey, his grandparents James and Helen Clark, and a very special cousin Michael Schmitt. Along with many close friends who lost their lives way too soon.

Jimi was born November 26^th, 1985 in Dodgeville, WI. He grew up in Dodgeville, then moved with his family to Cobb, WI, in 1999 until 2012. He recently resided in Platteville, WI. Jimi loved being outdoors, he had a strong passion for nature and animals. He enjoyed fishing, going for walks, helping others and spending time with his family and two daughters. He was known for his sense of humor and loved making the ones around him laugh. Among all the happiness in Jimi's life, he was a struggling addict for many years.

Us, as a family, do not want to hide or ‘sugar coat' the way Jimi lost his life. Heroin, among many other drugs, is a very serious problem not only in this community, but all over the United States. Through our loss and the losses of many others, we want everyone to see and understand the severity of this drug epidemic. There are many people of all ages struggling with drug addiction. Addiction is not just a phase. So many people live and die with it every single day, and those numbers keep growing. Something must be done. We, as a people, need to make a change. We need to no longer be embarrassed. We need to no longer hide this issue. If you, or someone you know is struggling with addiction, it is okay to seek the appropriate help. Please don't stand in the shadows. You can find light in the darkness. You are loved. Believe in yourself. Live.
