Obituary
Betty J. Sudmeier, 87, of Platteville died on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at Epione Pavilion, Cuba City, Wisconsin. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 19, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville. Rev. Faustino Ruiz will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 18, 2017 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, or from 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass at the church. Betty was born on August 22, 1929 in Belmont, Wisconsin, daughter of James and Mildred (Benedict) Edwards. She was united in marriage to William L. Sudmeier on June 23, 1951 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville. He preceded her in death on October 13, 1993. Betty and William farmed in Union, Lima Township and in 1966 moved to Platteville. She worked at Garden Gate Restaurant for many years. She later worked at UW-Platteville Student Center in food service until her retirement in 1998. Shortly after her retirement she moved to Preston, Iowa, where she formed a special friendship with Everett Yaddoff. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville. Betty and Bill enjoyed square dancing. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre, 500 and Canasta. She liked to watch the Brewers and Packers, and especially loved to watch Badger Basketball.
She is survived by her four children, Marilyn (Stan) Nodolf, Janet Sudmeier, Mike (Linda) Sudmeier, Randy (Barb) Sudmeier; 8 grandchildren, Kari (Aaron) Apel, Tracy Nodolf, Shane (Lisa) Sudmeier, Josh (Jill) Sudmeier, Ryan Sudmeier, Tim (Stefanie) Hereid, Jeffrey (Kelly) Sudmeier, and Corina (Mike) Wagner; 14 great-grandchildren, Ainsley, Ellery and Erelyn Apel, Olivia Nodolf, Jayda Sudmeier, Jordyn Phillips, Luke and Kaden Miller, Hudson and Hadiley Wagner, Addison and Maxson Sudmeier, Bjorn and Rowan Beniek-Hereid; one sister, Eleanor Noble; sisters-in-law, Joan Edwards, Rosemary Edwards, and Marie Knutson; brothers-in-law, Bill Swart and LaVerne Bann; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Robert, David and Russell Edwards, sisters, Isabel Anderson, Margaret Bann, Florence Swart, and Grace Genthe.
