Merle V. Duggan 85 of Platteville died on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital, Madison, following a brief illness. Memorial services will be at 12:00 p.m. (Noon), Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Rev. Brenda Whitford will officiate.  Chapel Military Rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #42 and VFW Post #5274.  Following the service there will be a time of fellowship and lunch at the Platteville Golf Course. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Platteville.  Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville.  Memorials may be made to the Merle V. Merle was born on August 1, 1931 in Platteville, son of Francis and Marie (Jahnke) Duggan.  He was united in marriage to Beth Louthain on December 27, 1952 at Grace Methodist Church, Dubuque.  Merle served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Merle owned and operated Duggan's Repair Service, Platteville, for many years where he did repair and installation of appliances.  He then worked at Wahlert High School, Dubuque, where he was maintenance supervisor and head custodian.  He retired after 22 years of service.  Merle drove bus for the Platteville School District and after retirement he continued driving bus and also driving for Woodward Printing.  Merle enjoyed bowling, euchre, fishing, and doing woodworking.  He took pride in making toys, piggy banks and plant stands for his grandchildren and family.  Merle was a true “handyman”.

He is survived by his wife, Beth; three children, Gary (Michele) Duggan, Lori Adrian, and Kris (Wayne) Abing; seven grandsons, Ryan (Carissa) Duggan, Kurt (Heather) Duggan, Kyle (Jackie) Adrian, Chad Adrian, Adam (Danielle) Abing, Eric (Jenny) Abing, and Alex (Jen) Abing; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Jean Wolf, Francene (Oren) Dimick, and Carol (Stan) Wunderlin; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Guerdon Buch, son-in-law, Mark Adrian and brother-in-law, Don Wolf.

Gary & Michelle & Extended Family. our heartfelt sorrow at the passing of Merle. it wasn't far from the orchards of the MacKeegans ( misspelling , I know) that your house was and all the fond memories you must have. I sure can remember the cars. and you guys that your mom and dad raised well, very very well. take care in the tough coming days and remember the great man your father was. warn regards.
