Gary was born on May 18, 1943 in Platteville, Wisconsin, son of Chester and Florence (Vine) Bell. He was united in marriage to Lynn Casper on December 14, 1974 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Cuba City.  He graduated from Platteville High School and later from UW-Platteville, where he played football.  Gary played football for the Madison Mustangs after college. Gary worked for Wausau Insurance Company.  Gary then became an auctioneer and owned Chester K. Bell Real Estate Auction and Appraisal for many years.  Gary always liked a good meal, especially a good steak.  Gary especially enjoyed spending time with his wife, Lynn, and family.

Gary was born across Cedar Street two months after I was. We played together; we went to Lab School together; we went to high school together; we went to college together; we played football together for over seven years; we enjoyed an adjacent bar stool more times than I can remember. Gary stayed in Platteville; I did not. We no longer spent much time together. But Gary always was a special person. That we will never have the opportunity to rehash old times or even current events is very sad. My best to Lynn and Jason.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. Gary did not know how to say no. If there was a charity auction or a way that he could help a community then Gary was always there to help where and when he could. I always enjoyed him coming into my place of business and talking about a range of things and stories he had to tell. Thoughts and prayers to your family.

Dear Lynn and Jason: We were so sad to hear of Gary's death. We hold dear in our memories those times we saw you and him at the Ticket and shared stories and laughs about Platteville. He was always so welcoming and supportive whenever we saw you. May your memories of times spent together offer support as you experience sorrow from his loss. Mick and Rhonda Viney
