Jacob Udelhofen

Jacob R. “Jake” Udlehofen, Sr., 79 of Potosi passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 18, 2017 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Tennyson.  Rev. Richard Leffler will officiate.  Burial will be in the church cemetery where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #473 and VFW Post #5276.  Friends may call from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at the church or after 10:00 a.m. Monday at the church.  The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, is serving the family.  Memorials may be made to the Jacob Udelhofen Memorial Fund.  Online condolences can be made at www.melbyfh.com.

Jake was born on August 16, 1938 in rural Potosi, Grant County, son of Bernard and Anita (McReynolds) Udelhofen.  He was united in marriage to Joanne Leeser on May 3, 1960 in Potosi.  Jake served in the United States Army National Guard.   Jake worked various jobs before he established “7 J Ranch” rural Potosi in 1964.  He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing cards with family and friends, hunting, and showing off his unique collection of animals. 

Jake is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joanne; five sons, Jeffrey Udelhofen, Joseph (Katie) Udelhofen, Jason (Dena) Udelhofen, Jacob (Dawn) Udelhofen, Jr. and Jamie (Dayna) Udelhofen ; 15 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren;  sister, Phyllis Genthe; brothers, Jerry (MaryLou) Udelhofen, Ronnie (Helen) Udelhofen, and Donnie (Doris) Udelhofen; mother-in-law, Bernice Leeser; many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Robert “Bob” and sister, Kay.

The family would like to give a special THANKS to Grant County Hospice, especially Holly, Kim, Ashley, Brenda, and Clayton.  The family also extends a heartfelt THANKS to all the Doctors, Physicians, and staff who helped Jake and the family.
