Obituary

Aloa A. “Sweetie” Winkers, 85, of Lancaster, died on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Epione Pavilion, Cuba City.  Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. (Noon), Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville.  Rev. Mike Short will officiate.  Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster.  Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville.  Memorials may be made to the Aloa Winkers Memorial fund. “Sweetie” was born on January 15, 1932 in Lancaster, Wisconsin, daughter of Noel and Essie (Dobson) Hartnett.  She was united in marriage to Gerald W. Winkers on February 10, 1953 in Platteville.  He preceded her in death on December 22, 2011.  “Sweetie” worked at the Burgess Battery Factory for a short time and after getting married she farmed with her husband, Gerald, in Ellenboro Township for many years.  She enjoyed birds, especially humming birds, baking, gardening, canning and raising her chickens and ducks.  Sweetie truly loved being with her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her five children, Peggy Zuhlsdorf, Garry (Cheryl) Winkers, Susan (Mark) Averkamp, Roger (Lorraine) Winkers, and Laurie (Darren) Radke; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Bernard “Buzz” (Beverly) Hartnett; brother-in-law, Robert (Marlene) Winkers; sister-in-law, Shirley (Lynne) Cowles and nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, her parents and sisters, Irene Peterson and Ivanell Peterson-Tanner.
