Obituary

Clarence J. Jenny, 92, of Platteville, Wisconsin, died on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, Iowa.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 23, 2017 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, where military rites will be accorded by VFW Post #5274 and American Legion Post #42.  Rev. Connie Matye will officiate.  Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Blanchardville, Wisconsin.  Friends may call from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, or from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Monday.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clarence J. Clarence was born on July 31, 1925 in Monroe, Wisconsin, the son of Joseph and Marie (Loeher) Jenny.  He joined the United States Army in 1942 and served during WWII in the South Pacific; he was honorably discharged in 1945.  On May 15, 1948 he was united in marriage to Dolores Gilbertson at the Blanchardville Lutheran Church.  Clarence was cheesemaker for 52 years; he began working at age 12 making brick and limburger cheese for Walter Minning.  Later on, he ran Drumman Valley and Apple Grove Cheese Factories before becoming owner and operator of the Belmont and Platteville Dairies.  He was awarded National Championship Swiss Cheese in 1986.  After retiring, he helped his Moen grandsons with field work for 15 years.  Clarence was a member of the Platteville VFW Club, Elks Lodge, and American Legion.  He enjoyed gardening, repairing just about anything you could think of, especially engines, and having coffee with the guys. 

Clarence is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Dolores; three daughters, Vicki (John) Hirsch, Debbie (Mike) Moen, and Brenda (Jerry) Nicolin; fifteen grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Henry Gilbertson and Orville Gilbertson; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; three sons, Dennis, Calvin, and Carey; one brother, Henry Jenny; and three sisters, Gladys Ballad, Claire Dougherty, and Bertha Jenny.

Very sorry to here of Clarence's passing. If not for Clarence and brother Hank, I would not of been able to go to college and graduate as they hired me to run a can route and then go to the local cremeriers and pick up all their whey.back in 1969-70. Clarence and Delores , Henry and family were part of our lives for many years. We were supported by them and loved by them. Urs worked for Hank and Clarence when we were students at UW-Platteville. We are so grateful to have known Clarence. These men gave us opportunities that made our lives much richer. Our sympathy and our love to all of you. Thank you! Clarence made a difference in our lives and in the lives of others!
