Gary L. Womack, 54, of Platteville died on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Southwest Health Center, Platteville, of an apparent heart attack. A Celebration of Life will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville.  Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the celebration at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the Gary L. Gary was born on May 3, 1963 in Racine, Wisconsin, son of Charles and Carol (Greiner) Womack.  He was united in marriage to Lisa Redfearn on July 25, 1981 at the Lutheran Church of Peace, Platteville.  Gary worked at Jeff's Mini Mart as a mechanic and later became a long haul truck driver for over 15 years.  He owned and operated G & L Trucking, Platteville.  Gary was a “jack of all trades” where he would fix and work on just about anything.  He enjoyed working on cars, his 1972 Chevelle, and always a good conversation with anyone; he could make a friend anywhere he went.  He was a member of the Southwest Auto Club, where he was currently serving as vice-president, and was a member of Southwest Wisconsin Kingpins.

Gary is survived by his wife, Lisa; five children, Amber (Chris) Tipton, Blake (Amanda) Womack, Logan Womack, Zachary (Ashley Soderstrom) Womack, and Cassen Womack; 8 grandchildren, Haidyn, Izabella, Averi, Liberty, Brooklynn, Madilynn, Makenzie and Kolton; his mother, Carol Womack, and brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father, Charles, and brother, Brian “Bubba” Womack, and longtime, friend, Jim Tracy.

Sorry for your loss. Gary was in my class in high school and it was sad to hear of his passing. Gary is now in a better place partying and talking with our other classmates. RIP Gary.

I was privileged enough to spend some time with Gary when he was meeting with dogs for adoption at our local shelter. He was positive, straight forward, mellow and incredibly kind. He and Lisa opened their home to wayward animals and they were healed and strengthened in their care, a true testament to how very special Gary and Lisa are. I will always think of Gary with the fondest memories and smile knowing how he helped make the world a better place for people and animals. All my love to Lisa and the whole Womack family.
