Lu was born on March 20, 1924 in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, daughter of Albert and Ella (Rautmann) Kuhlow. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Schellpfeffer on May 11, 1946 in Sheboygan Falls. He preceded her in death on January 2, 1982. Prior to her retirement, Lu worked at Knebel's Processing in Belmont where she was the bookkeeper. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Bridge, and being a part of the card clubs. She always enjoyed tending to her flowers, gardening, traveling, and especially walking in the sand of South Carolina along the Atlantic Ocean. She loved keeping in touch with her family, talking to her children, and grandchildren, knowing what they all were up to, especially her great-grandchildren. Lu and her children appreciated that she lived by neighbors who watched out for each other, and whom would always lend a hand when needed.

She is survived by her three children, Jon (Vickie) Schellpfeffer, Sonja (Al) Alt, and Kay (Greg) Werk; six grandchildren, Marc (Becky) Schellpfeffer, Amy (Justin) Niemetscheck, Nic (Maria) Schellpfeffer, Jessica (Nick Ranallo) Werk, Robert Werk and Elise Alt; eight great-grandchildren, Tyler, Riley and Jadyn Schellpfeffer, Madison, Nolan, and Alex Niemetscheck, and Ellia and Aeryn Schellpfeffer; four sisters, Nelda Kaestner, Delores Wehmeier, Lavern (Milton) Wippermann, and Ann (Wayne) Grunwald; two brothers, Willard Kuhlow and Daniel (Harriet) Kuhlow; sisters-in-law, Ave Kuhlow and Emagene Kuhlow; brother-in-law, Tom Milhans; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters, Helena Backhaus, Gerda Schellpfeffer, and Ruth Milhans; brothers, Walter, Robert, Reuben, and LeRoy Kuhlow; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Kuhlow and Jeanette Kuhlow, and brothers-in-law, Walter Henkel, Lawrence Backhaus, Earl Kaestner, John Schellpfeffer, and Lloyd Wehmeier.

Feeling very sad that our family's life long friend passed away this week. Even though I was very young when we moved from Belmont, I still have vivid memories of Lu, Ken, Jon, Kay and Sonja - both at our house and theirs. I officially learned to play Bridge as a teen, but I was definitely exposed to the game since birth -- many happy memories of my parents playing Bridge with the Schellpfeffers. I just visited Lu two months ago when passing through Belmont the weekend of UWP homecoming. So thankful I had a chance to hear her voice and her laugh one more time. My love and sympathy to Jon, Kay and Sonja, and the rest of the family.

We were so sad to hear of Lu's passing. Lu taught my 7th grade confirmation class in 1982-83 when we were in transition at Peace before Pastor Watts Rozell came to serve. Lu was really instrumental in igniting my love for God's Word! I have fond memories of sitting around her table, reading Scripture, and hearing Lu's interpretation and faith journey. She was a firm, but loving teacher. We always enjoyed seeing her when we visited Mom (and Dad) and worshipped at Peace for the holidays. God bless your family; heaven has truly gained a wonderful angel and servant for the Lord! Our sympathy and prayers, Mark & Amy Siegert family (Amy Engelke)
