Curtiss L. Place, 56, of Stratford, Wisconsin, formerly of Hazel Green, Wisconsin, died of natural causes on Monday, December 11, 2017 in Cresco, Iowa. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, December 17, 2017 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Rev. Peter Ruggles will officiate. Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville or from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service on Sunday at the funeral home. Curtiss was born on November 3, 1961, in Platteville, son of Milton, Sr. and Betty (Kopp) Place. He was united in marriage to Diana Olmstead on October 19, 1985 in Shullsburg, Wisconsin. Curtiss graduated from Fennimore High School in 1980. He farmed in Grant County, worked as a mechanic for the Monroe Truck Company, and also as a mechanic in Wausau. He owned and operated Place Tires in Jacksonville, Florida. He most recently was a truck driver for QLF (Quality Liquid Feeds) out of Dodgeville. Curtiss enjoyed woodworking, camping, and loved to be with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Diana; two children, Catherine Place and Christopher (Krystle) Place; eight grandchildren, Donavon, Levi, Sophia, Andrew, Gabriella, Brody, Anna, and Tobias; sisters, Barb Hanna, Sherry (Larry) Klaas; brother, Don “Beefy” (Bunita) Place, and David Place; mother-in-law, Judy Brodel; father and mother-in-law, Elmer and Evelyn Olmstead; grandmother-in-law, Avis Rice; brother-in-law, Tom Walther; adopted sisters, Deb and Becky Morgan-Mackelberg; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Bonnie Walther; brother, Donavon David in infancy, sister-in-law, Robin Place; and brother-in-law, Chet Hanna.
