Ruth M. Jinkins, 81, of Platteville, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services for Ruth will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday December 18, 2017 at the First English Lutheran Church in Platteville. Rev. Mike Short will officiate. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Platteville. Family and friends may visit from 3:00 to 6:00 on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at the First English Lutheran Church, or from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service on Monday. The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, is serving the family. Memorials may be made to the Ruth M. Jinkins Memorial Fund. Online condolences may be made at www.melbyfh.com.

Ruth was born on August 12, 1936 on the family farm near Highland, WI to Art and Esther Day. Ruth graduated from Platteville High School in 1954 after growing up in Rewey. On October 22, 1955 she was united in marriage to David C. Jinkins of Mineral Point. Ruth worked at the Platteville Veterinary Clinic for her brother, Ralph Day, from 1968 until 1992. After leaving the Veterinary clinic Ruth and Dave moved to Blanchardville to run the Skaife Family grocery store until their retirements in 1993. Dave preceded Ruth in death on May 12th, 1995.

Ruth and Dave welcomed many young people into their home as the years went by. Ruth welcomed everyone with open arms, a warm heart and an open mind. She always had time to listen and a short visit at her home usually turned into several hours, at least one meal and a card game or two.

Ruth is survived by 3 daughters, Lynn Jinkins, Jayne Murphree and Karen Forseth (Ron Knutson) all of Platteville. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dan Ketchum (Susy) of Mt. Vernon, IA ; Amy (Keith) Clark of Platteville; Joe Murphree of Mankato, MN; Dave Murphree of Lake Mills, WI; Cory (Kim) Forseth of Verona, Wi and Jody (Mike) Cryderman of Madison, WI. Ruth's great grandchildren are Courtney and Colton Clark (Tessa Ostendorf), Mackenzie and Brady Ketchum; Quinlan Murphree; Chloe and Carson Forseth; and Jack Cryderman. Ruth is also survived by her brother Bob (Pam) Day of Rewey, sisters-in-law Ramona Day of Sussex, WI and Barb Zaffino of Mineral Point, WI. and many nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her brothers, Ralph, John and Norman; sister, Doris Roberts; and several brother and sister-in-laws.

Grandma was the most amazing person and welcomed me with open arms into this family many years ago. She was always kind to me and I will always miss her sweet spirit and soul. We laughed, cried, talked, played cards and games together and she always made me feel like I was another grandchild and friend. She was the most giving, loving, funny, adorable person that you could have the privilege of walking into your life and is the epitome of what a grandparent should be. I will miss you, but am so, so grateful for the time I was given with you. Until we meet again Grandma, enjoy Heaven and have fun with your family. Death ends a life, not a relationship. I know you will be waiting for me when I get there. I love you big as the sky.

Never has truer words been spoken than "a short visit at her home usually turned into several hours, at least one meal and a card game or two." One of my favorite memories is being invited for a Wednesday night meal. I was told it was going to be just Dave, Ruth, Lynn, Laurel and me. I was expecting what most families would consider a Wednesday night meal, but oh no not at the Jinkinses. A full Thanksgiving meal kept coming out of the oven. Turkey, dressing, corn, green bean casserole, buns, and pies. For the 5 of us. Then the fun really began...little by little people kept coming in the door, more and more. Laurel said every time the door opened Short Legs just shook her head. Dave ended up setting up card tables so everyone had a place to sit. Food galore, people, conversation and laughter, there was always laughter. You have been blessed with so many memories and you were so good to make sure your Mom was able to be at the center of many of those memories. You will cherish them more and more and they will carry you through.
