Malinda Simmons

Malinda M. Simmons, 85, of Belmont, Wisconsin, died on Monday, December 25, 2017 at Southwest Health Center Hospital, Platteville. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 29, 2017 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Rev. Connie Matye will officiate. Burial will be at the Belmont Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2017 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, or from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home. Malinda was born on January 16, 1932 in a log cabin along the Grant River, rural Potosi, daughter of James Henry and Alverna (Kress) Richardson. She was united in marriage to Marvin D. Simmons on August 14, 1948 at First English Lutheran Church, Platteville. He preceded her in death on August 2, 1986. Malinda worked as a cook at Ed's Cafe, and at Loud Speaker Component, Lancaster. Later she did child care for many years in her home, “Best known as Grandma Linda”. She enjoyed cooking, baking, camping, gardening, quilting, sewing and crocheting. She was an avid Packers, Badgers, and Cubs fan. She especially loved to spend time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her five children and their families; daughter, Barb (Tom) Simmons, and family, Pamela (Mark) Lentz, Alex and Teegan; Joseph (Jennifer) Simmons, Christopher, William and Samantha; Ryan (Tanya) Simmons, Matthew; Kimberly (Chad) Gonczy, Oliver and Sophia; daughter Terri (John) Jacobson and family,Sara, Zachary and Kylie Jacobson; son, Larry (Neena) Simmons and family, Jeff (Laura) Simmons, Alexis; Jodi (Mark) Ludwig, Bradley, Brian, Amanda, and Abbey; Josh (Jen) Simmons, Karena, Coltyn, Jaydon, Brynna, and Lainey; Jeremy (Andrea) Simmons, Taylar, Tyler and Tanner; son, Gary (Laurie) Simmons and family, Cindy Scanlan, Austen, Renee and Joseph; Becky (Rick) Holman, Hannah, Erick, Carli and Drew; Justin (Heather) Hoffman, Venessa, Natalia and Alexander; son, Bill (Trudy) Simmons and family, Randy Lanier, Chloe; William Simmons, Jr.; Jacob (Whitney) Simmons, Rylee, Brandon Simmons, Micheal Simmons; daughter-in-law, Eva Esser and family, Steve (Cheryl) Simmons, Sherry (David) Caplan and Spencer (Jami) Simmons; brothers, Louis Richardson; Charlie (Pat) Richardson; Jim (Judy) Richardson; Ronald (Ruth) Richardson and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, son, Michael in 1980, grandson, Scott Simmons in 2001, sister, Esther Robinson and brother, Levi Richardson.
