Norma was born on August 6, 1943 in Cuba City, WI, to the late Emmet and Edna Coulthard. Norma graduated from Iowa-Grant High School and then continued her education at UW-Platteville where she received her teaching degree. As luck would have it, Norma graduated in December and Montfort Elementary School had an opening at the same time. After several years, she began teaching at Winskill Elementary in Lancaster, WI. At this time, she and her sister, Marge, built a house and she became a Platteville resident. Norma had a passion for teaching. She talked about her co-workers with much respect. She had a soft spot for every child that walked through her classroom, and there were many.

Norma was also an active aunt. She was with family every weekend to watch her nieces and nephews. She never missed a ball game, gymnastics meet, or anything else they were involved in. Norma was quiet, but gave from her heart in the biggest way possible. She was known for quietly leaving behind money for her nieces and nephews, while their parents were unaware. When it came time to pay at a restaurant, Norma always grabbed the check first. We all learned to “just say thank you.”

Norma eventually built a second home in Platteville; she loved her home. She also enjoyed collecting cookbooks. When it was time for a family gathering, we knew that Norma would be trying a new recipe.

Norma also enjoyed traveling. She went on several trips throughout her life, but her favorite trips where the ones she took with her niece, Cherri.

Norma will be lovingly missed by her sisters, Marge (Larry) Curran, Kathleen Blum, Marian (Ron) Runde; brothers, Larry (Vicki) Coulthard, Harold Coulthard, and Dale Coulthard. She will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Norma was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Nancy (Dale) Boge; infant sister, Mary; and brother, Richard Coulthard.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Orchard Manor for the wonderful job they did caring for Norma. We couldn't have asked for anything more. Your smiles and conversations helped us through many days.

I remember Norma as a wonderful teacher in so many ways. She was a teacher when I was in 4th grade and she also taught my 4 sons years later. One year at a Parent/Teachers Conference, Norma gave me a wonderful piece of advice that I needed to hear when I was being stressed out about trying to keep it all together. Your children need 3 things from you,,, Clean clothes, food to eat and love. All the rest will come together and happen. -- Thanks Norma for the advice. I have passed it on to many others. God Bless You! (Years ago I was lucky enough to knit Norma a Prayer Shawl. I am glad I could give back to her a little bit, since she gave so much to others.)

My dearest Norma, Fourth grade seemed like it was just the two of us! We planned, wrote, designed weekly parent newsletters, projects, and events together. If science had a test, Norma's social studies quiz would be another day. We shared students and were able to discuss their strengths and what we could do to help them. Norma and I used our post conference Friday afternoons to shop and dine out at different locations. She was happy, comfortable in her own shoes, and loved her family and friends. A favorite memory was when Norma took the time to really appreciate my garden! She wanted to know the names of the trees, flowers, and shrubs. With her travels taking her away from Platteville, she could not have fussy blossoms that needed constant care. I still snicker at her pronouncing 'warsh' instead of wash. Such a Grant County thing! Norma, you will be missed but your friendship is still alive and active inside my heart. I love you, Norm!

Norma was such a sweetheart. Very soft spoken and kind to others. I remember her with Marge coming into the Beauty Boutique many many years ago. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
