Vincent “Gene” was born Aug. 16, 1932 in Readstown, WI to Donald and Juanita (Widner) Fisher. His family moved to Avalanche and later to Viroqua. He graduated from Viroqua High School in 1951 and from the Milwaukee Area Technical College with a degree in watchmaking in 1953. He married Barbara Lou LaHann on Dec. 27, 1959 at the First English Lutheran Church in Platteville. They lived in Lancaster and raised a family of four sons, until moving to Platteville in 2013 to be closer to health care.

Vincent was a watchmaker for Weber Bros. Jewelers in Lancaster for over 50 years. He was very proud of his collection of clocks and watches, each one with a story to go with it. He was a craftsman who loved to repair things from an early age, not just the timepieces that he had been formally trained to repair. Vincent loved to tinker in his basement workshop.

Vincent and Barbara were charter members of Christ Lutheran Church in Lancaster, where their sons were baptized and confirmed into the faith.

He is survived by his loving wife Barbara of Madison; four sons, Michael (Heidi) of Naperville, IL, Craig (Caroline) of Onalaska, Mark (Mary) of Madison, and Scott (Lisa) of Madison; fourteen very special grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Jr. (Linda) of Viroqua, and Hollis of Oshkosh; and a sister, Jane (Thomas) of Viroqua. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Harlan (Sheila); and an infant granddaughter.

The family would like to thank Dr. Whalen, Dr. Ringold, and the staff at Tri-State Dialysis in Platteville for their special care of Vincent for over 11 years, and the staff at St. Mary's Care Center in Madison for their compassionate care of Vincent for the past few months.

In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. John 16:33
