Joyce Oakes

Joyce J. Oakes, 72, of Platteville, Wisconsin, died on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, Iowa. Per Joyce's wishes, there will be no formal services. The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, is serving the family. Online condolences may be made at www.melbyfh.com.

Joyce was born on April 17, 1946 in Maryland, the daughter of Sydney and Grace Wolf. She graduated from Thurmont Maryland High School in 1964. Joyce was united in marriage to Roger Oakes on July 10, 1965 at a little country church in Thurmont, Maryland. Joyce enjoyed life and she liked being able to see the country as she traveled with Roger while he drove truck. While Roger and Joyce lived in California, they were able to have all of her siblings out to visit and that was very important to her. Joyce had a love for dogs and she also loved spending time with her grandchildren; she was always happy to babysit when needed.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Roger, of almost 53 years; four children, Robin Smith and her son, Derek Smith and his son, Quinton Smith; Steve Oakes, Todd Oakes, and Christopher (Jodie) Oakes and their children, Jarrett, Christian, Joyce, and Chance Oakes; seven siblings, Faye Grimes, Sydney (Sharon) Wolf, Randy (Kathy) Wolf, Sandy (Jim) Culver, Mark (Loretta) Wolf, Sel (Wayne) Stambough, and Brenda Wolf; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and niece, Sel Grimes.
