Obituary

Dale E. Weigel, 90, of Platteville, died on Monday, July 2, 2018 at Atrium Post Acute Care of Lancaster. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2018 at the Lutheran Church of Peace, Platteville. Rev. Jeff Pedersen will officiate. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Platteville. Military Rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #42 and VFW Post #5274. Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2018 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, or from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church on Saturday. Dale was born on September 2, 1927 in Grant County, Wisconsin, son of Henry and Stella (Riechers) Weigel. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Ann Horner on December 27, 1952 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa.

He graduated from Platteville High School in 1945 and farmed his entire life in Elk Grove Township except for serving in the Korean War from January 1951 to December 1952. Dale retired to Platteville in 1982. He was a director with Swiss Valley Farms Milk Corporation from 1985 to 2003. He was a life member of the Lutheran Church of Peace and the Platteville VFW Post 5274. Also a member of the Platteville Elks Lodge 1460 and American Legion Post 42.

Dale enjoyed the outdoors, helping on the farm, playing cards and being with family and friends. He maintained a great sense of humor throughout his life. His wit often brightened everyone's day.

Dale is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Ann; five children, Rodney (Chris) Weigel, Platteville; Jill (Bob) Goffinet, Platteville; Jeffrey (Mary) Weigel, Platteville; Dan (Beth) Weigel, Yorkville, IL; Becky (David) Nolden, Belleville; 11 grandchildren, Ryan (Traci) Weigel, Cory (Katie) Weigel, Troy (Molly) Weigel, Carrie (Ted Muzinga) Goffinet, Casey Goffinet, Sara (Todd) Capesius, Tracey (Tony) Gehin, Alyssa (Cory Hestekin) Weigel, Kevin Weigel, Anna and Anthony Nolden; great-grandchildren, Kaelyn, Kenadee and Keegan Weigel, Aiden and Emma Weigel, Dylan, Briggs and Brielle Weigel, Eli, Grant and Camden Gehin, Konner Bailie, Raelyn Capesius and Noah Hestekin. Dale is further survived by his brother, Howard Weigel and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Elton and Guerdon as well as his grandson, Wesley Weigel.

The family would like to thank those who cared for Dale. Christy Willis P.A. and staff at Medical Associates Clinic in Cuba City, Platteville Manor Care, Atrium Post Acute Care in Lancaster as well as the staff of St. Croix Hospice. Your kindness and compassion to Dale will always be remembered.
