Mary Barth

Mary Catherine “Kay” Barth, age 86, of Belmont, died peacefully with family by her side at Southwest Health Center, Platteville, on Thursday, July 12, 2018. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2018 at the St. Philomena Catholic Church, Belmont. Friends may call from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, where there will be a parish rosary at 2:45 p.m. Friends may call also from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church on Thursday. Mary was born on July 18, 1931 in Five Points, IA, to Joseph and Margaret (Lex) Schrobilgen, and graduated from St. Joseph's Academy, Dubuque, in 1949. Mary Kay married Paul Barth on October 24, 1950 at St. Joseph's Church in Rickardsville, IA. Together they farmed in Key West, IA, Dickeyville, and Belmont, WI where she was a member of St. Philomena's Catholic Church and Altar Society. Mary was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. A homemaker who enjoyed gardening/canning; spending time with family; and being “Gramma Mary” to the many children she babysat.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Carol (Dan) Ellerbach of Bellevue, IA; Bonnie Hammes of Holmen, WI; Paula (Ron) Digman of Dickeyville, WI; Steven (Sue) Barth, of Livingston, WI; Anita (Ken) Kohout of Montfort, WI; Gerri, Gail, and Gene Barth, MJ (Derek) Dachelet, and Karla (Bob) Stoney, all of Belmont, WI; Brenda (Kris) Enright of Stockton, IL; and Ann (Matt) McDowell of East Dubuque, IL; forty-one grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren (with two more due this fall); sisters, Dorothy (Roy) Gabrenja, Patricia Hough, and Thelma Roberts, all of Dubuque, IA; sister-in-law Irma Schrobilgen of Durango, IA; numerous nieces and nephews; and special canine companions, Lady, Bailey, and Shiloh.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings (and their spouses), Melvin Schrobilgen, Germaine (Aloysius) Schmitt, Robert (Dorothy) Schrobilgen; and Harlan Roberts; son-in-law George Hammes, Jr.; grandson, Alexander Walker; in-laws Emil and Mary Barth; brothers and sisters-in-law (and their spouses), Katherine (Frank) Dunne, Anne Barth; Florence (John) Muenster; Henry (Irene) Barth; Gertrude (Joseph) Kilburg; George (Erma) Barth, Alfred (Marie) Barth, Helen (Arthur) Kowalske, and Edna (William) Thoma; along with several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Dr. White, Medical Associates, and the Southwest Health Center staff that cared for Mom. Your tireless efforts made her final days peaceful and comfortable to which the family will be forever grateful.
