Donald K. Clayton, Sr., 80, of Platteville, died on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Southwest Health Center Hospital, Platteville. A Memorial Mass will held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Cuba City. Father Dave Flanagan will officiate. Immediately following the service there will be a time of lunch and fellowship at St. Rose Catholic School. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Mineral Point, WI at a later date. Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, where there will be a rosary at 3:45 p.m., friends may also call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass on Wednesday at the church. Don was born on November 7, 1937 in Platteville, WI son of Cecil and Cora (Waggett) Sr. He was united in marriage to Jacquelyn Unger on January 29, 1979 in Waukesha, WI. Don along with his brothers, Cecil Jr. and Gordon, purchased the Belmont Livestock Market and ran it for over 30 years. In 1976 Don got his real estate license. Don started Clayton Real Estate and Auction Service, Inc. in 1982 with his brothers, Cecil and Gordon. In 1991 Don and his wife, Jackie, bought out the business. Don and Jackie ran the business until 2017 when the business was sold and continues today as Clayton Real Estate. He was an auctioneer for over 60 years and loved doing auctions and appraisals. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Cuba City. In 2013 he was named Platteville Citizen of the Year.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie; three children, Donnie (Lynette) Clayton of Platteville; Karla (Tom) Thompson of Livingston, WI; Dan Clayton of Belmont, WI; five step-children, Scott (Cathie) Jacobson of Wausau, WI; Gary (Debbie) Jacobson of Madison; Todd (Jody) Jacobson of St. Charles, IL; Cappy (Andy) Miller of Belmont; Tracy (Doug) Cropp of Janesville, WI; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Cecil Clayton, Jr and Roger Clayton; two sisters, Joyce (Hubert) Mester and Gola Finkelmeyer; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant children, David and Sally, grandson, Jacob Thompson, granddaughter, Katie Clayton; and brother, Gordon Clayton.
