Velda Custer

Velda J. Custer, 76, of Platteville died on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Southwest Health Center, Platteville. A Celebration of Life will be at 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 25, 2019 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Rev. Robin Luckey will officiate. Velda was born on March 8, 1942 in Hartington, Nebraska, daughter of Clarence and Margaret (Brummer) Bruder. She was married to Gary Custer in June of 1959 in Nebraska. She worked at K-Mart and Swiss Colony. Velda's main job though, was raising her family, which was the focus of her life. As her family grew she truly enjoyed all of their family gatherings and cookouts. She also enjoyed dancing, playing scrabble, cribbage, and bean bags, and she loved to hear the “ching ching” at the casino. Velda also very much enjoyed crafting with her friend Marge. She was a true Brett Favre fan.

She is survived by her children, Michael (Cathy) Custer, Doug (Deb) Custer, Michelle (Russ) White, Bill (Jolene Houy) Custer and Tami (Matt Bearjar) Custer; eight grandchildren, Billee (Jon) Procknow, Chelsi Custer, Desmond (Olivia) White, Taylor White, Amber Custer, Rebekah Lee, Sam Hodgson, Calie Jo Custer; and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Kasey Custer; three brothers, Dennis, Wylie Dean and Loren Bruder; and sister, Marveen Luellaman. The family would like to thank Southwest Health EMS for their care given to Velda.
