Ruth A. Spensley, 92, of Belmont, died on Saturday, January 19, 2019. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 24, 2019 at the Peace Lutheran Church, Belmont. Rev. Robin Luckey will officiate. Burial will be at the Belmont Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the church. Ruth was born on December 4, 1926 in Grant County, Wisconsin, daughter of Harry and Alice (Weinbrenner) Schambow. She was united in marriage to Glenn T. Spensley on December 28, 1946 at First English Lutheran Church, Platteville. He preceded her in death on March 16, 2000. She was a graduate of Platteville High School and Capri Beauty College, Dubuque. Ruth and Glenn farmed for many years in the Platteville and Belmont area, and in 1967 they moved to Belmont. She worked at the Belmont Schools grade school lunch program as an assistant for 15 years. She was a longtime member of the Peace Lutheran Church, Belmont. Ruth's family was the most important part of her life.

She is survived by five children, Kay (Steve) Austin, Steven (Mary) Spensley, David (Margy) Spensley, Barbara (William) Heins and Philip (Shelley) Spensley; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald (Gayle) Schambow and Richard (Karen) Schambow; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, infant granddaughter, Jenna Spensley, granddaughter, Kimberly Kay Kohn, brother, Robert Schambow, sister, Doris Martinson, brothers and sisters-in-law, Merle Martinson, Darlene Schambow, Donald and Jean Spensley, Warren and Helen Dimick, James and Dorothy Mullen, and William and Betty Spensley.
