Carl Wilson

Carl L. Wilson, 77, of Platteville, Wisconsin, died on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at his home. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, where chapel military rites will be accorded by VFW Post #5274 and American Legion Post #42. Rev. Joe Corbin Jr. will officiate. Burial will be at the Belmont Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 29, 2019 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, or from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Carl was born on October 1, 1941 in Smelser Township, Grant County, the son of Ellis and Florence (Nodolf) Wilson. Carl was united in marriage to Darlene Riter on April 25, 1964 at the Platteville United Methodist Church. Darlene preceded him in death on September 15, 2018. Carl attended Lone School and graduated from Platteville High School in 1959. After high school, he hauled milk for some time until joining the United States Army. Carl was honorably discharged from the Army in June 1964 and then joined the Army National Guard where he served until May 1967. After his time in the service, he worked at Pioneer Ford for a short time and then began working at Scott Implement until 1978. Carl then farmed full time for a while, running a beef and hog operation; until he began to work for Whitehead Trucking. His parents then needed help on the family farm so Carl helped out on the farm and also worked for Georgia Pacific where he retired from after 18 years. He continued to run the farm until recently. Carl enjoyed collecting toy, and full size, tractors and socializing around town, especially, the VFW.

Carl is survived by two sons, Dean (Michelle) Wilson and Don Wilson; five grandchildren, Brady and Kam Wilson, Jessica (Chas) Featherston, Alysha (Tristan Reynolds) Alexander, and Cadin Cook; four great-grandsons, Jackson and Ben Reynolds and Liam and Alex Featherston; two brothers, Vern (Linda) Wilson and Kenneth (Gale) Wilson; sister-in-law, MaryAnn Riter; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Darlene; brother, Kerry Wilson; and brothers-in-law, Norman and Wesley Riter.
