Geneva M. Schaefer, 92, of Platteville, Wisconsin, died on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Edenbrook of Platteville. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March, 27, 2019 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Platteville. Father John Blewett will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, where there will be a parish rosary at 3:45 p.m. Friends may also call from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Wednesday. Geneva was born on March 8, 1927 in Bloom City, Richland County, the daughter of William and Helen (Jindrick) Kaukl. She was united in marriage to Aelred “Al” Schaefer on September 1, 1948 at St. Wenceslaus in Yuba, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on May 2, 2003. Geneva graduated from Richland Center High School then went on to Beauty School in St. Paul, Minnesota. She was a member of St. Mary's CCW. She also worked as the bookkeeper for her husband's business, Al's Mobile Feed. Geneva enjoyed bowling, knitting, crocheting, and quilting.
Geneva is survived by nine children, Jackie Davis, Jennifer (Zewdu) Habte, Joel (Ann) Schaefer, Gerard (Andrea) Schaefer, Julie (Randy) Hale, Jacinta (Philip) Henden, Denice (John) Roth, Jeff (Martha) Schaefer, and Lisa Sarenac; 25 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren with two more on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Al; infant brother, William Jr; sister, Marvelene Kaukl; brother, Laverne Kaukl; and all of her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
