Laurel D. Olmstead, 66, of Shullsburg, Wisconsin, died on Friday, May 17, 2019 at Atrium Post Acute Care of Mineral Point. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2019 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Burial will be at the West Ella Highland-Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Laurel D. Olmstead Memorial Fund. Laurel was born on January 25, 1953 in Hazel Green, Wisconsin, son of Donald and Erma Mae (Bunker) Olmstead. He graduated from Shullsburg High School. He held various jobs working as a service attendant, was a farm hand for many farmers and later worked at the Hodan Center, Mineral Point. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing cards. He was an avid Packer fan.
He is survived by one sister, Twila (Andy) Hardy, one brother, DeVere Olmstead; brother-in-law, Orville “Fitz” Fitzgerald and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant twin sisters, sisters, Ardith Wichus and LaVon Fitzgerald, and brother, Burnette Olmstead.
