Roberta J. “Bobbi” Edwards, of Platteville, passed away on her 59th birthday, at Stonehill Care Center, in Dubuque, after a hard fought battle with cancer. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at the New Hope Assembly of God Church, Platteville. Pastor Mike Majeski will officiate. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. (Noon) until the time of the service on Saturday at the church. The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, is serving the family. To honor Bobbi's love of education and giving, the family requests, instead of plants and flowers, donations of backpacks and other school supplies be given. These items may be dropped off at the Melby Funeral Home, 1245 N. Water St., Platteville, prior to Saturday, or brought to the church on Saturday morning. Online condolences may me made at www.melbyfh.com.

Bobbi was born on July 23, 1960 in Moline, Illinois, the daughter of Robert and Verna (Rhodes) Edwards. She graduated from Moline High School in 1978 and then attended Illinois State University where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Special Education. After graduation, Bobbi moved to Platteville and worked for the Platteville School system for a time, then went to work at CESA #3 in Fennimore, where she worked for 25 years as a Teacher of the Hearing Impaired, retiring in 2018. Bobbi had a great love for all children, but she was especially drawn to ones with special needs. She was also very involved in her church, New Hope Assembly of God, where she taught Sunday School and loved to spend time with her church family.

Bobbi is survived by her mother, Verna (Warren) Strandlund; brother, Ken Edwards; nephew and niece, Cody (Rachel) Edwards and Sam Edwards; and her puppy great-nephew, Vinny. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert.

My condolences to those closest to Bobbi. I only knew Bobbi for a brief time but her passion for helping others was evident from the first time I met her. She was a very loving and compassionate person. The world is a better place because of her efforts. She helped so many.

I worked with Bobbi for 3 years through a Deaf/HOH studenI thoroughly enjoyed Bobbi and weenjoyed many talks about God! She was a very compassionate and giving person. I had the pleasure of visiting her for the last weeks of her life at Stone Hill. She always had a smile and a great faith in knowing that she would be with Jesus. We shared a tear or two as well, but she always came back to her confidence that she would be in heaven when she left this world. I came to visit her the morning of her birthday. I thought I would try to make her day special even knowing she was very weak and dying. Little did I know, she stepped into heaven about 30 minutes before I arrived! She did not need "me" to cheer her at all! Jesus had called her home to celebrate her birthday with Him! I praise God I was able to talk with her these last few weeks, she dealt so graciously with her cancer and prognosis, accepting her heavenly Father's timing. Thank you Bobbi for showing me how to live and how to accept your appointed time to slip away from this earthly life and into the presence of Jesus! My condolences to all her family and may God give you all peace and comfort as only He can. Phil. 4:7 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

I had the privilege of working with Bobbi in the Platteville School system for over 20 years. She worked with several of my students with special needs and was loved by all of her students. She was such a dedicated, dependable educator and always did what was best for her students. I am sorry I cannot be at Bobbi's service, but I am sending prayers to your family during this difficult time.
