David L. Timmerman, 77, of Platteville, Wisconsin, died on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at his home of natural causes. A celebration of David's life will be at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Private family burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the celebration at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Dave was born on June 19, 1942 in Dickeyville, Wisconsin, son of John and Lillian (Chase) Timmerman. Dave was united in marriage to Mary Schaefer on May 9, 1964 at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Tennyson, Wisconsin. He graduated from Cuba City High School. He served in the United States Army. Dave worked at John Deere Dubuque Works for 42 years, from 1965 – 2007, where he was a welder. After retirement he continued working at John Deere as a tour guide. He was a member of American Legion Post #42 and was passionate about horses.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; five children, Jodi (Sarah) Timmerman, Kathy Timmerman, David (Becky) Timmerman, Beth Anderson, and Amy (Michael) Basse; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Shirley Runde, Mary Kay Lawrence, Joan Timmerman and Janet Cottrell; one brother, John (Anna) Timmerman and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dear Mary & Family: I am so sorry about Dave's death. It was so comforting to me to visit with you, Mary, just a few months ago when my Dave died. My prayers are with you, and I hope you find comfort in knowing what a wonderful man Dave was, and how much he was loved by everyone. Mary & Family: I'm a part-time receptionist at John Deere. I came in this morning (16 Sept) and heard the news. I am just so so sad. The past 8 years year I have come to know a lot about Dave and his family. He was so proud of his family. He always had some candies in his pocket to share with me and many others. When he found out my sister drove fork truck in the skid steer division, he would tease her and she'd pretend to run him over with the forktruck when he did his tours. We shared stories of our families, our military experience, gardening, politics, the loss of my 16 year-old daughter and just every day life. He just helped me this summer buy a very good used snow blower from his buddy in Platteville. I would bring him my home canned pickled beets which he loved. Everybody here that knew and/or worked with Dave thought very highly of him. I am just so so sorry for your loss and there are no other words. My heart goes out to you and his wonderful family. Mary and family - Our sympathies to all of you. David was a gentle soul and I am certain your family will miss him greatly. Dad, George Hammes, loved to have him visit, and whenever I ran into him he always asked after dad. May he rest in peace.

I remember David Timmerman and Janet. We were at Holy Ghost gradeschool together. He had a nice smile. I was a Timmerman then but I don't think we are related -maybe distant cousins but I don't know where to find that out. Rest in peace and may the Lord give you a big hug!
