Kenneth Leibfried

Kenneth F. Leibfried, 81, of Platteville, Wisconsin, died on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at Orchard Manor. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson, Wisconsin. Father Richard Leffler will officiate. Burial will follow at the St. Thomas Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the mass on Saturday at the church. Ken, the son of Alfred “Bub” and Hilda (Slaats) Leibfried, was born on August 12, 1938 in Cuba City, Wisconsin. Ken graduated from Potosi High School in 1956. After high school, Ken joined the Wisconsin National Guard 32nd Infantry Division and began working at the Dubuque Packing Company. On August 25, 1959 he married Evelyn Lynch at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Potosi. Ken was called to active duty on October 1961 as a Sergeant in the combat support company during the Berlin Crisis and was stationed in Ft. Lewis, Washington. In 1970, Ken began a 30-year career in the insurance business. He first worked as a partner at Buros Insurance Agency in Platteville, later became a partner at the House of Insurance, and ultimately retired from Tricor.

Ken's hobbies included fishing, golfing, hunting, playing cards, and spending time with his family. For 32 years, Ken made annual trips to Wyoming with his brother, Al, and his friends to hunt antelope and mule deer. Ken was an avid card player and especially enjoyed playing 500, which he taught to each of his five grandchildren. Ken was also a faithful man and was active in his church. Most of all, Ken was a family man who loved attending his grandchildrens' events and spending as much time with them as possible.

Ken is survived by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn; two daughters, Kim (David) Reinecke and Lisa (John) Pechan; five grandchildren, Jason (fiance, Kirsten Dedrickson) Reinecke, Tyler Reinecke, Jessica Reinecke, Audrey Pechan, and Nolan Pechan; three brothers, Al (Donna), Dale (Mary Grace), and Robert Leibfried; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Darlene Loeffelholz, Connie (Tom) Loeffelholz, and Karen Lynch; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Burnell (Velma) Lynch, Roger Lynch, Dale “Chuck” Lynch, and Charlie Loeffelholz. The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff at Orchard Manor Nursing Home who provided excellent care and assistance to Ken. Each of you were truly like family to him and left an indelible mark on our hearts. We will be forever grateful.
