Thank you Miss Howell for caring about your students. I am one of many that benefited from your tenacious love of mathematics. As with many instances in life a person doesn’t appreciate what happened to them until later on. Thank you for your patience and guidance. May you Rest In Peace.

I am sorry to hear of Jane's death. I have known her for years, as fellow residents of Platteville. I always enjoyed a good visit with her. I recognized her intelligence, and yet, grounded concern for everyone she knew. She was a source of learning for a lot of Platteville residents who were fortunate to have had her for a teacher. She will be missed.

My deepest sympathies to “Miss Howell’s” family. She was my 7th and 8th grade math teacher. Aside from a limited aptitude for math, I had a math phobia, which I’m sure made it harder for me to “get it.” Jane noticed right away and invited me to stay after school so she could work with me privately. Those one-on-one times literally changed my life. She was able to calm my math-rattled brain and think critically and rationally instead of expecting to not understand right out of the chute. From then on I approached math with a different perspective and much more diligence. I wasn’t afraid of it anymore. I’ve thought of her many times thru the years and am always grateful that she reached out to me. I’m sure there are many more students that can tell a similar story. For me, she was the teacher who made the biggest impression on me, and made the most difference in my life. I learned what a good teacher should be. Though I haven’t seen her in many years, I will always miss her. She holds a very special place in my heart. Peace, Miss Howell Diane Lowe

I am sorry to learn of Jane's passing. She was one of my best and favorite teachers. When I was taking a difficult math class in high school, Jane took time to help me better understand the material, making herself available by phone or for study sessions at her home along with a classmate. I would have been frustrated and not done as well without her help. She was a friend to my mother, Gail Kopp. My sympathy to all who mourn Jane's passing.

My condolences. I benefited from Ms. Howell’s expert math teaching, but I didn’t know her well. Her place in my heart comes from hearing of her friendship with my mother, Elvera. I hope they can round up a great game of bridge up there.
