I am so sorry to hear about Jean. My parents Nelson and Rozella Spease, would often visit Mom's Aunt Mim and Uncle Walter Woodward, and we would visit Jeans parents . I am 4 years younger than Jean and Joanne was younger than I, so we had a close connection as cousins. Jean always had a sweet smile, she was kind, intelligent, gentle, and would never hurt anyone with words or bad feelings. God Bless you all during this time. Let Jean's wonderful memories always remain in your hearts. Sincerely, Joyce Meininger

I grew up playing with Jean and Joan. There was an old chicken coop on their farm and we worked many hours cleaning and converting to a clubhouse. I have many good memories of the fun times we had.

I was saddened to hear about Jeans passing. My thoughts and prayers are with Jean's family during this difficult time. I have known Jean many years through our Church in Middleton. She was a wonderful, caring friend to all those who knew her.

Dear Jean, I am sorry that I looked up your name a minute ago and learned the news. Now I am crying. During the years 1980 to 1984, I worked in the same laboratory as you, namely, Prof. John Suttie's laboratory that was devoted to research on vitamin K. Attached is a photograph that I took of you and your young daughter in a dance costume. During these years, you and I went to see a dance performance by your daughter at an elementary school in Madison. Also, about your daughter, I remember that she enjoyed wearing her shoelaces backwards, and tying them at the bottom instead of at the top. Jean, your personality was so much better than the previous technician (H.G.) in Prof. Suttie's laboratory. Part of your job was to prepare reduced vitamin K, for use in our experiments on the enzyme, vitamin K-dependent carboxylase. The only advantage of taking the ultimate journey, is that now you can enjoy the company of Prof. Suttie, Dhami Shah, and John McTigue, all of our laboratory who also took the ultimate journey. As for me, I am still in close contact with other members of our lab, namely, Ellen Hildebrandt and Peter Preusch. After leaving Madison for employment at MUSC in Charleston, SC, I spent many months typing my memoirs of everything that happened in the years, 1980-1984, including fond memoirs of you. These included an amusing discussion of the difference between "tucks" and "pleats." As you might remember Jean, the greatest thing about my 4 years in Madison was my membership with the performing dance group, The Kickapoo Cloggers. This group included Peter Preusch and Ellen Hildebrandt of Prof. Suttie's lab. One of the photographs that I have of our performances near the State Capitol building, shows that you were in the crowd that was watching us. Love always, Tom Brody, Ph.D.
