Marian Elaine (Sturdevant) Masbruch passed away at her home in Platteville, Wisconsin, on Monday, March 22, 2021. The first daughter of Marcus C. and Emma L. (Stewart) Sturdevant, was born on May 21, 1930 in Iowa County, Wisconsin. She graduated from Avoca High School, class of 1948 and went on to receive a bachelors degree in Elementary Education from UW-Platteville. She was united in marriage to Clay J. Masbruch on August 11, 1950 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. He preceded her in death on October 29, 2003.

Marian was proud of her professional career of an elementary school teacher of students for 37 years in the Platteville School District. She had many second generation students. She was a member of the Platteville United Methodist Church.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 53 years Clay J., brothers, Marvin, Virgil, Darrell and Harland. Marian is survived by her devoted daughter, Norenne K. Masbruch, sister, Joan M. Swinehart, sister-in-law, Arlyne Sturdevant, brother-in-law, Arthur Masbruch and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

At the request of Marian's wishes, there will be no formal memorial services. The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, is serving the family. Memorials may be made for a fund to be established in Marian's name, and can be mailed to the funeral home at PO Box 245, Platteville, WI 53818. Online condolences can be made at www.melbyfh.com.

Sing a verse of her favorite song in her memory, “You Are My Sunshine”. She will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. The family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice caring team allowing Marian to be at home in her final days.

I am so sorry to hear that Marian has passed. I have known Marian since I was a child and one of her students. Marian taught me from 1st thru 6th grade when our country school was closed. I attended Center School in Harrison township. The years she taught me would have been about mid 50's thru early 60. She was a wonderful teacher and was always there teaching 1st thru 8th in a little one room school. She drove out on those awful old roads thru snow and bad weather. With dad being an antique dealer for so many years, I and and my siblings had an extended family with all the acquaintances, or more appropriately good friends, of mom and dad. Marian and Clay were part of that extended “antique family”. Karen and I remember seeing Marian at many auctions or stopping over to see mom and dad. While saddened to hear that Marian is no longer with us, the memories of earlier times brought a warmth to my heart and a smile to my face. Marian was a wonderful person and will be missed.

Marian was my teacher at Westview Elementary when I was a third grader, probably around 1973. I had struggled as a reader until it all came together for me in her classroom. All these year's later she is still one of my favorite all time teachers and I was blessed and lucky to have been her student. My condolences to the family.

I am so sorry to hear about one of my favorite teachers passing. She was always such a sweet lady. I have only fond memories of her even years after I was out of school. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends, and to the thousands of ex-students that will be grieving this loss. An extra special prayer for you all.
