Obituary

Bernard P. “Bernie” Steffes, 68, of Hazel Green, Wisconsin, formerly of Dickeyville, passed away on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics, Iowa City, IA. Memorial services will be at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 16, 2021 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Pastor Mary Ann Floerke will officiate. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Monday. Memorials may be made to the Bernard P. “Bernie” Steffes Memorial Fund. Online condolences may be made at www.melbyfh.com.

Bernie was born on March 1, 1953 in Darlington, Wisconsin, the son of John and Jean (Taylor) Steffes. He graduated from Belmont High School in 1972. Bernie worked for Runde Auto Group in East Dubuque for some time, where he detailed cars, picked up parts, and drove cars. Most recently, Bernie had been working for Tri-State Auto Auction in Cuba City. Bernie loved to play Bingo, he even called Bingo at The Blind Society of Dubuque. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.

Bernie is survived by his daughter, Kelly (Andy) Shea; two grandchildren, Devyn and Kennedy; eight siblings, Virginia Leahy, Marion (John) Calvert, John Jr. (Peggy), Joanne (Jeff) Chandler, Doris (Craig) Skattum, Jerry (Jannan), Debbie (Scott) Andrews, and Dan Steffes; sister-in-law, Bev Steffes; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Matthew Steffes; brother-in-law, Ken Leahy; and niece, Gina Steffes. The family would like to express a special Thank You to the doctors and nurses at Medical Associates Cardiology Department, especially Julie Ehlinger and Lacee Millard, as well as, the staff at University of Iowa Hospital for their loving care provided to Bernie.
