Growing up in Avoca, Leroy was always around. He’d give a cheerful greeting whenever I’d see him. I always enjoyed our chats, and hearing about his latest project. He would always lend a hand if he could. His dear wife Marge worked at school when I was younger and was always so sweet. He loved talking about his model buildings too. I was always intrigued and inspired by Leroy and what he was able to do. He was a good friend, and I’m honored to have known him. My prayers to Shirley and his family....

Leroy was such a sweet guy. One day I saw him putting a note on my suburban I went out and he said news around town is you like my house I got a present for you. He had pictures, newspaper articles and a hand written note about the house inviting us over. My husband and I enjoyed our visits with him and Shirley. Another day recently he drove over on his lawn tractor to bring me some of his famous homemade noodles to make chicken noodle soup with since he no longer drove a car. He loved talking about his life , children, home and Avoca. I will forever remember his smile especially when I asked him to attend an Avoca kids club event. He said I am not a kid but I told him we are all someone’s kid and I wanted him to see all of the kids and community that I knew would come. He did come and had a smile on his face the entire time. He was known by many and will be deeply missed. Our hearts go out to his entire family. Drake & Dawn Dahms

Neighbors like Leroy and Shirley make living in a small town a treasure. Leroy brought joy to our hearts. He was thoughtful - baked us pies, brought us every home good you could imagine; helpful- whenever we needed a hand, he was ready with the tool or supply we were lacking; charming - his stories captivated us, what a memory! Leroy will be GREATLY missed by our family and has inspired us to be better.
