Shirlie Deery

Shirlie Ann (Christen) Deery, 85, of Platteville, Wisconsin, passed away on Monday, November 1, 2021 at UW – Hospital, Madison. A private family service will be held, and burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Belmont, at a later date. Shirlie was born on August 16, 1936, the daughter of Werner and Mary (Cullen) Christen. She had three siblings, Ron Christen, Nancy Dolan and Kay Stanton. Shirlie graduated from Platteville High School and then attended cosmetology school in Madison. She was united in marriage to Donald Deery on August 20, 1955 at St. Phillip's Catholic Church in Highland, WI. They lived in the Belmont and Platteville area and raised five children. Family was very important to Shirlie, as well as faith and friends. She loved to share meals and coffee with family and friends. Shirlie also felt it was very important to keep in touch with loved ones and friends over the years. She enjoyed her home and appreciated the outdoors. Although things changed over the years, Shirlie enjoyed fishing. She would say “there's nothing like floating around the lake with my husband!” She enjoyed cooking, baking, and canning things from the garden. She also loved flowers and thought there was nothing more beautiful than what “mother nature” could do.

Shirlie is survived by her husband, Donald; five children, Chuck (Mary Kay), Kathy (Tim) Murphy, Steve (Vicky), Lori, and Dennis (Kathleen); six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her three siblings.
