Robert O. Sommer, 83, of Platteville, Wisconsin, died on Thursday, January 20, 2022. Private services will be held at a later date with burial of cremains at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery, New Berlin. Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, is serving the family. Robert was born on May 18, 1938 in West Allis, Wisconsin, son of Otto and Emma (Schwonke) Sommer. He attended UW-Milwaukee and later UW-Madison where he received his MS in Mathematics. Robert was a mathematics professor at UW-Platteville for many years. Robert was a private person who enjoyed reading, his dogs and going on long walks. To those who go to know him though he was a very generous person with a wonderful sense of humor.
He is survived by his nieces, Sally Goodwin, Susan Poulos, Beth Vogel, Lora Mickelson and Janis Kesy. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Emma Schallhorn, Dolores Poulos and Evelyn Sommer, brothers, Ralph and Ronald Sommer.
