Obituary

Jean Ann Bellmeyer, 82, of Platteville, Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly Saturday morning April 2, 2022 surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, April 7, 2022 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Deacon Bill Bussan will officiate. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, or from 10:00 AM until the time the service Thursday at the funeral home. Jean was born on July 9, 1939 in Platteville, daughter of Lyle and Dorothy (Bobo) Stead. After graduating from Platteville High School in 1957, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Earle Franklin Bellmeyer on July 27, 1957.

Jean started working at Burnham's Drug Store while in high school; and would continue her employment with Cardin's Pharmacy. She stopped working to be a stay-at -home mom and returned to the workforce as an employee with One Hour Martinizing. Eventually, she returned to Cardin's Pharmacy and retired in 2010, after 38 years of service. Jean was a devoted member of First English Lutheran Church, Platteville and served on many committees. She received the Martin Luther – Leila Reiter Christian Service Award in 2018. Jean was a dedicated member of the Rebekah Lodge serving as Noble Grand for several years. Jean especially enjoyed her bowling and was inducted into the Platteville USBC WBA Hall of Fame in May 2006. Jean's volunteer service included the Senior Center, Red Cross Blood Mobile, and Ruby's Pantry. Jean was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and treasured her time with family.

Jean is survived by her husband, Earle; three daughters, Diane Ballard, Dawn Williams and Darcy (Stan Stoney) Tracy; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Mark Stead; sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Lyle) Baker and Beverly (Robert) Rowswell; and nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle and Dorothy Stead and father and mother-in-law, Lester and Edna Bellmeyer.

Dear family of Ms Jean - what a wonderful impact she had on our family's lives at Cardin's for so many years. She was one of the very first people i met in Platteville and she made me feel so very welcome. I always, always knew she would help, no matter what i needed as i came to Main street. Jean was a best friend in high school to my Mother Beverly Roddick, she always asked about her and chatted with me when I saw her and Gene out and about. A true Gem through and through.
