Matt & Laura Melby
As a family owned funeral home, the Melbys are serving the communities of Platteville, Belmont, and the surrounding communities and committed to serving families with care, professionalism, and compassion during life’s most difficult moments.
Matt and Laura believe that every family deserves thoughtful guidance, clear communication, and services that honor each life in a personal, meaningful, and uncomplicated way. Their approach combines long standing funeral traditions with a modern understanding of how families want to plan, communicate, and remember today.
Mark Stead
Mark Stead has been part of the Melby Funeral Home team since 2001 and has worked closely with Matt for more than two decades. Over that time, he has become a key member of the staff and someone both the team and the community rely on.
Mark is our pre-need specialist and also has an extensive knowledge of the funeral home’s operations and history, making him a go to resource when questions come up.
After more than twenty years with Melby Funeral Home, Mark knows the business inside and out and is a steady presence on the team.
Dave Pluemer
Dave Pluemer has been part of the Melby Funeral Home team for the past 16 years. He assists with funerals and helps handle many of the physical and logistical aspects that keep the funeral home running day to day.
Dave is often the person behind the scenes making sure things are taken care of, whether that means assisting during services, maintaining the property, or keeping equipment and vehicles in working order.
His practical experience and willingness to step in wherever needed have made him a dependable part of the team.
Jeff Crase
Jeff Crase joined the Melby Funeral Home team after retiring from a long career in education. He spent more than three decades working in area schools, teaching and later serving as a Dean of Students in Belmont before retiring.
At the funeral home, Jeff assists with removals and helps during services. He is part of the team that supports the day to day work that goes into each funeral.
Vicki Pluemer
Vickie Pluemer assists with a variety of duties around Melby Funeral Home, helping both in the office and with general day to day needs at the funeral home. Her work helps support the staff and keeps things running smoothly behind the scenes.
Vickie is part of the extended team that helps make sure everything is prepared and in place when families and visitors come through the doors.
Mary Butson
Mary Butson assists the team at Melby Funeral Home as a funeral assistant. She helps with services and supports staff with the various tasks involved in preparing and carrying out funerals.
Mary works closely with the funeral home team to help ensure that services run smoothly and that everything is prepared for families and guests. Her role helps support the many details that go into each service.
Tammy Schaefer
Tammy Schaefer is part of the support staff at Melby Funeral Home. She assists during visitations and funeral services and helps with many of the behind the scenes tasks that go into preparing for each service.
Tammy works alongside the funeral home team to help ensure things are organized and ready when families and guests arrive.
Dave Kieffer
Dave Kieffer serves as a funeral assistant at Melby Funeral Home. He helps support the team during visitations and funeral services and assists wherever an extra set of hands is needed.
Curt Fatzinger
Curt Fatzinger serves as a funeral assistant at Melby Funeral Home, helping support services and assisting the team where needed.
Curt is a longtime member of the Platteville community and spent much of his career at the UW-Platteville, where he worked in athletics and recreation. Over nearly 40 years, he held a variety of roles supporting athletic programs, facilities, and campus events.
At Melby, Curt helps with services and supports the day to day work that goes into serving families and the community.
