Obituary

Virginia E. “Ginny” Cunzenhiem, 79, of Platteville, Wisconsin, died on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Lancaster Health Services, Lancaster, Wisconsin. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Friends may call from 2:00 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Virginia “Ginny” Cunzenhiem Memorial Fund, which can be mailed to the funeral home at PO Box 245, Platteville, WI 53818. Online condolences may be made at www.melbyfh.com. The family is requesting that all in attendance will wear face coverings and practice social distancing during their time at the funeral home.

Ginny was born on May 25, 1941 in Hazel Green, Wisconsin, the daughter of George and Cecelia (Ploessl) Jansen. She was united in marriage to Frank Cunzenhiem on September 13, 1958. He preceded her in death on August 31, 1992. Ginny worked at the Old Wisconsin Cheese Factory in Platteville for 25 years. She loved to play poker, bean bags, going to the casino, and spending time with her family.

Ginny is survived by six children, Deb (Doug) Custer, Sandy Douglas, Dave (Misti) Cunzenhiem, Cathy (Mike) Custer, Tammy (Jim) Montgomery, and Kerry Cunzenhiem; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandhchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley (Harry) Trickle; brother, Robert “Butch” Jansen; and sister-in-law, Cecelia Jansen and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; son, Timothy; grandchildren, Kasey Custer, Mandy Douglas, and Sinsaraty Irons; and son-in-law, Mike Douglas, brothers, George, Donnie (Neva), Darrell and sisters, Violet (Kenny) Canon, and Betty (Bill) Darrow.

The family would like to give a special THANKS to Lancaster Health Services for their care and compassion given to Virginia.
