Susan was born on October 3, 1961 in Elmhurst, Illinois, daughter of William A. and Lygia (Knophfmueller) Brock. She was united in marriage to Thomas “Tom” Rutherford on September 10, 1988 at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Elmhurst, Illinois. Susan worked in banking until she and Tom started their family. She worked in day care and as a volunteer in Special Education Departments at the children's schools. She enjoyed the ocean, especially the Gulf of Mexico, dolphins, and nature as a whole, especially, the deer that frequented her backyard. She was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking. Susan's greatest joy, though, was spending time with her family, friends, and time in sun.

She is survived by her husband, Tom; three children, Shannon, Austin and Taylor; her mother, Lygia Brock; two sisters, Karen (Mark) Geeves and Lynn (Ben) Harrington; one brother, Steven (Jen) Brock and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father.

"What was once enjoyed and deeply loved, we can never lose, for all that we love deeply becomes part of us." - Helen Keller Uncle Tom, Shannon, Austin, and Taylor, I am thinking of each of you. I hope you can share your favorite memories of her as you mourn together. I hope you find peace in knowing how much she loved all of you. Find ways to share the best parts of her personality with others through your actions, and she will live on through you. The best parts that I'll hang on to are her sense of humor/sarcasm, her impeccable taste in handbags, and the way she cared for her family. Love, Cait
