Shirley M. Meier, 86, of Glen Haven, WI passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, June 21, 2025. Funeral services will be at Noon, Saturday, June 28, 2025 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville.  Pastor Mary Ann Floerke will officiate.  Burial will be at Blakes Prairie Cemetery.  Following the burial a meal will be held at the Bloomington Legion Hall.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.   Online condolences can be made at www.melbyfh.com.

Shirley was born on September 4, 1938 to Melvin and Ruth (Brown) Mason.  She graduated from Bloomington High School in 1956.  Shirley went on to Madison to begin her career in cosmetology.  She then returned home to care for her father.  Shirley opened her beauty shop in Beetown, where she met Laverne Meier.  Who would later become her husband on June 9, 1972.  He preceded her in death in 1987. After marriage, Shirley moved her business to her home, where she was able to have a better work/life balance.  With her business now at home, she was able to care for her son and 8 stepchildren.  Her demeaner for caring for others continued to be evident, as after her mother passed in 1991, Shirley took on the role of primary caregiver for her sister, Jill, for 20 years.

Throughout her life, Shirley enjoyed the presence of her family and friends, numerous cattle shows, a good game of euchre, going for car rides and so much more.  She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors and the Beetown Auxiliary.

Shirley is survived by her son, Tony (Janell) Meier, grandchildren, Dillin (Amber) Meier and Abby (Christopher Taylor) Meier and her first great-grandson on the way, four stepsons, Gary (Barb) Meier, Deforest, Mark (Kathy) Meier, Dubuque, Mike (Cheryl) Meier, Beetown, Tom Meier,  Lancaster, three stepdaughters, Sheila (Randy) Hook, Phillips, Jan (Ken) Breuer, Lancaster and Kim (Randy) Wallin, Lancaster and many step grand and great-grandchildren, sisters, Doris Clevidence, Madison, Virginia Ziegler, Sun Prairie and Linda (Duane) Hoffman, Bloomington, sister-in-law, Patricia “Patty” Mason, Glen Haven and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, Stanley, Melvin “Gene”, Clive “Pete” and John “Jack” Mason, sister, Jill Mason, brothers-in-law, Moris Clevidence and Dean Ziegler, sister-in-law Catherine Mason and Stepson David Meier.

We would like to extend deep gratitude to Dr, David Casillas, Grant County Hospice nurses, Grant Regional Hospital staff,  West Grant Rescue Squad and Glen Haven First Responders.

I’m sad to see this. I have great memories or Laverne and Shirley. They are probably play cards with mom and dad now!
