Shirley M. Edwards, 87, of Platteville, Wisconsin, gained her angel's wings on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, following a short illness. Memorial services celebrating her life will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 29, 2022 at the United Methodist Church, Platteville. Friends may call from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM. The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, is serving the family. Online condolences can be made at www.melbyfh.com.
Shirley was born on October 12, 1934 in Galena, Illinois, daughter of Harry and Mamie (Dimke) Green. She was united in marriage to Sherrel "Sid" Edwards on October 4, 1975, in Rockton, IL. Shirley graduated from Galena High School in 1952, and proudly graduated from Rockford Memorial's Nursing Program in 1955 and began her lifetime career as a Registered Nurse. Shirley worked in many fields of nursing from pediatrics to geriatrics, touching and enhancing so many lives. Shirley loved to travel, read and was an avid sports fan who loved to watch Brewer, Badger and Packer games. She was very social and loved to go out to eat or just share a meal with friends. She loved her frequent visits to The Senior Center in Platteville playing cribbage, cards, and sharing her quick wit, sarcasm and of course chocolate with her friends. She was always just a phone call away for all her family and friends that needed a listening ear, someone to share a secret or joy in their life with. Shirley, a member of the United Methodist Church, Platteville, had a very strong faith, love of God and enjoyed reading her Bible.
Shirley is survived by her step-children, Tony (Julie) Edwards and Beth Staver; four grandchildren, Lisa (Jeffrey) Bourrette, Lucas Edwards, Jenna (Chad) McCartney, and Shaye (Jimmy) Schueller; six great-grandchildren, Reece, Rylee, Brooklynn, and Jaxon McCartney, Carson and Chaise Schuchart; Sister in law Mary Green, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Shirley is also survived by her 3 “adopted daughters” Nancy (Tom) Edwards, Michelle (Jim) Klein and Sue Kieler. She was blessed with dear friends Dee Fenner, Char Lange, Hank & Judy Bossenbrock, Karen Anderson Carp.
Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, "Sid", stepson, Edward Edwards, parents, and brothers, Morris (Dawn) and Harold "Hap" Green.
