Robert “Bob” W. Hale, 81, of Platteville, Wisconsin, died Friday, August 1, 2025 at his home. Bob was born on April 16, 1944, in Platteville, the son of John W. and Genevieve “Gen” A. (Kopp) Hale. He was united in marriage to Barbara Hentrich on May 20, 1972 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville.
Bob graduated from Platteville High School and attended UW-Platteville. In 1966, he was drafted and served in the United States Army from 1966 – 1970, as an Army Security Agent. After his honorable discharge, he went back to UW-Platteville and graduated in 1972 with a degree as an Industrial Safety Engineer. Bob worked for Montgomery Ward where he worked in Milwaukee for five years, then he was transferred to Chicago for five years. His career took him to Dallas/Fort Worth for 30 years working for Montgomery Ward and then Lockheed Martin Corporation until his retirement. After retiring, he worked part-time for the Boy Scouts of America in Irving, Texas. Bob and Barb moved back to Platteville in 2012.
Bob was a member of the American Legion Post 42 and VFW Post 5274. He was an avid Wisconsin sports team's fan, supporting the Pioneers, Badgers, Packers, Brewers and Bucks. Bob was proud to be a UW-Platteville sports booster. He enjoyed music, dancing, and playing golf.
Bob is survived by his wife, Barb; brother and sisters-in-law, Joe and Margaret Hentrich, and Doris Hentrich; eleven nieces and nephews and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law, John and Ruth Hentrich and nephew, Joey Hentrich.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Friday, August 8, 2025 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Platteville, where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 42 and VFW Post 5274. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home on Friday. Immediately following the burial there will be a meal at the VFW, Platteville.
